In various treatments of cancer, many people view them as being laboratories, hospitals, scientists and doctors, but there is more that is found to be vital. In 2015, Eric Lefkofsky co-founded Tempus, a tech company based in Chicago, Illinois, that uses a system that specializes in connecting clinical data collected on a cancer patient to molecular data. By gathering more information on various treatments on the molecular level, it helps doctors deliver more personalized care to cancer patients and more specialized treatments for various kinds of cancers. Medical records in recent years have gone from paper records to electronic records. This has helped for billing and insurance purposes, but has been useless in medical research. Tempus seeks to remedy this by modernizing the way records are used, to include cancer treatments.

Eric Lefkofsky was born in 1969 in Southfield, Michigan, where he attended the University of Michigan. He then attended the University of Michigan Law School, graduating in 1993. He specialized in business, so he was not a likely candidate to become a leader in cancer research and treatment; but when a loved one was diagnosed with cancer, he saw that modern technology was lacking in the care of cancer treatments. Therefore, it wasn’t money that propelled him into this venture; caring about cancer patients was!

Not only has Eric co-founded Tempus and been innovative in finding numerous companies during his career, he and his wife have an organization known as the Lefkofsky Foundation, in which they have donated millions of dollars to charities. He also manages to serve on the boards of directors at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago; the Art Institute of Chicago and a charity known as The Giving Pledge, where he and his wife have donated half of their personal earnings. He is also currently a professor at the University of Chicago, where he teaches entrepreneurship and technology based business. In his young life, Eric Lefkofsky has accomplished much. Many are waiting to see what ventures are on the horizon for this entrepreneur and cancer fighter.
